A responsive website with illustrations using the scrolling mechanic to play against the passing time, demonstrating that traditional reimbursement is a laborious and endless experience.

FOR AN INNOVATIVE AND VIRAL DEVICE

In 2016, PayPal decided to make money transfers between French accounts and to countries in the European Economic Area completely free.
To promote this new peer-to-peer payment service, we designed this advergame based on a scrolling mechanic.

Storytelling and gamification

When paying back your roommate turns into a nightmare

The idea of this “scroll game” was to challenge users to pay back a virtual roommate as quickly as possible but without using the PayPal app.
Players had to scroll with their mouse to go through each of the numerous steps of the traditional reimbursement process between friends and family to reach the final validation step and be among the first 10 to win.
At the end of the game, a Call To Action suggested downloading the PayPal app to pay back friends in just a few seconds, using a phone number or email address.
Participants could then share their scores and challenge their friends on social media.
